How we communicate a home is how we communicate at work. If we struggle to effectively communicate, not only does it impact our personal relationships, but it also impacts team dynamics at work. We might not be so willing to share our thoughts, ideas or even our frustrations, thereby lowering the chances of an initiative’s success. Maybe we tend to lash out when upset. We react, saying things that break trust, burn bridges and undercut the relationships and rapport we spent time building.
Issues With The Boss
Let’s face it. Some of our bosses at work make decisions or act in a way that frustrates us deeply. Perhaps, they promoted you to a long-awaited position, only to add on job responsibilities that were not part of the agreement. Perhaps our boss interrupts us frequently in conversation and our frustration is at its peak.
FBI Communication
Simon Sinek, author of “Start with WHY” has studied and trained organizations on implementing some the kind of environments in the workplace that help people thrive (Simon Sinek Bio & FAQs, 2024). Simon talks to audiences about using the “FBI method” when needing to communicate with our bosses. Asking ourselves what feeling we have about a specific behavior and determining the impact of that behavior on us is a good way to prepare to speak with our bosses when frustrated (Simon Sinek’s 3 Simple Ways, 2024).
